About Us:
Allen County Job & Family Services offers a unique opportunity for interns to gain hands-on experience across various departments of the agency. Our interns work directly with our team to understand agency programs and daily operations while building stronger organizational, communication, and time management skills.

Expected Internship Duration: 8 weeks (may be renewed as appropriate).

This paid internship is a structured work experience providing career exploration and skill development opportunities for youth aged 18-24 who meet youth program eligibility requirements. Applicants will be screened for program eligibility.

Position Overview
Allen County Job & Family Services is seeking an Agency Intern to join our team and gain practical experience supporting critical services for our community. Interns will have the opportunity to work in one of three key departments: Income Maintenance, Investigations & Adult Protective Services, or Social Services. This role offers insight into agency operations while developing professional skills in customer service, data management, and problem-solving.

Department Specific Responsibilities

Income Maintenance Intern
  • Assist with public assistance programs, including food, cash, and medical assistance.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and support to clients.
  • Process mail, scan documents, and perform general clerical duties.
  • Answer and return customer inquiry calls and connect clients with appropriate staff.


Investigations & Adult Protective Services Intern
  • Support investigations by verifying employment, income, and address details.
  • Prepare subpoenas, overpayment letters, and agency mail.
  • Scan documents and maintain system records.
  • Assist with routine paperwork and other assigned tasks.


Social Services Intern
  • Assist with Social Services programs, including Non-Emergency Transportation and Publicly Funded Child Care.
  • Perform data entry, maintain accurate records, and assess client needs.
  • Provide referrals to appropriate units and deliver outstanding customer service.


Intern Qualifications
  • Currently in the final year of post-secondary education, pursuing a degree in business, HR, social services, or a related field, OR a recent graduate.
  • Exceptional computer, administrative, and document management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • A willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and maintain professionalism.
  • Enthusiasm for helping others and contributing to the community.
