About The Role
The ideal candidate for the Fraud Investigator position will be committed to maintaining the integrity of public assistance programs while serving the community. You’ll need strong problem-solving skills, the ability to conduct detailed investigations, and professionalism when handling sensitive cases.
  • Investigates fraud allegations within assistance programs such as Food Assistance, Medicaid, and Child Care
  • Conducts field work and home visits to gather information and verify claims
  • Prepares cases for prosecution, working closely with the County Prosecutor’s office
  • Maintains detailed records of investigations and prepares monthly reports on overpayments and recovery efforts
  • Assists with Adult Protective Services casework when needed
  • Manages fraud hotline inquiries and supports other investigators on special assignments
  • Prepares for and testifies in court when necessary
  • Attends training sessions and meetings to stay current with policies and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned, ensuring compliance and safeguarding resources


Candidate Requirements
  • Must have a strong commitment to protecting public resources and upholding program integrity
  • Completion of a baccalaureate degree in related fields preferred (criminology, social work, psychology, law enforcement, or similar)
  • Must possess excellent investigative and problem-solving skills, with the ability to handle complex cases
  • Experience in public assistance programs, fraud investigation, or benefit recovery is highly preferred
  • Regular, predictable attendance is a key requirement for this role
